3.4.1. General information

Power shafts transfer a torque from the engine, a transmission and differential to forward wheels. In a transmission case power shafts fasten shlitsevy connections with semi-axial gear wheels of differential. Fixing of a shlitsevy tip of the internal hinge of a power shaft in a semi-axial gear wheel is carried out by means of a spring lock ring. At installation the lock ring is compressed, entering into a shaft flute. After the shaft will be completely established in a semi-axial gear wheel of differential, the lock ring is unclenched and fixes a shlitsevy tip from axial moving. External hinges of power shafts fasten to naves of the forward wheels established on bearings. The shaft fastens to a nave a nut.
On driving from differential the universal hinge of equal angular speeds (CV JOINT) of tripodny type providing low level of vibration is established to a shaft.
Hinges of equal angular speeds are protected by rubber covers which fasten collars and protect from water and dirt hit.
Covers should be examined periodically on existence of traces of damages, leakages of lubricant or cuts. It is necessary to replace the damaged covers of CV JOINTS immediately new, differently CV JOINTS can be damaged. Replacement of a cover includes operation of removal of power shafts. Signs of wear or CV JOINT damage, besides leakages of lubricant, clicks at movement and turns, a rumble are at acceleration after movement by inertia or vibration at high speeds on the highway.
Use table 3.8 provided below for search of causes of defect. Numbers define a priority of a probable cause of malfunction. Check each part one after another. In case of need replace these parts.
